During the “New Project Proposals” session, Dr. Guo Jieni, BIEA’s Secretary‑General, presented two flagship initiatives:

1. APEC Tech for Good 2040 Vision
Focused on applying cutting‑edge technologies to regional social and economic challenges, this initiative will accelerate the translation of research into solutions that balance economic, social, and environmental goals. Dr. Guo emphasized that the Vision will chart fresh directions for high‑quality, digitally driven development across APEC economies.

2. APEC Technology‑Empowered Low‑Carbon Action: Roadmap, Accessibility, and Cooperation
Aiming to drive low‑carbon growth via technology, this project will outline clear decarbonization roadmaps, improve access to low‑carbon solutions, and strengthen cross‑economy collaboration. Dr. Guo noted the Asia‑Pacific’s pivotal role as a global economic engine and its responsibility to lead on climate action.

Dr. Guo also updated delegates on an ongoing BIEA project, “APEC Digital Solutions and Technologies for Elder Connectivity and Health,” which explores how digital tools can bridge the technology gap for older adults, enhancing their health management and social engagement.

Looking ahead to APEC China Year in 2026, Dr. Guo affirmed that BIEA is meticulously planning for a series of pragmatic cooperation projects. “By partnering with all APEC economies, we will tackle global challenges and share development opportunities. Next year’s China Year offers an ideal platform to deepen cooperation in technology innovation, green growth, and digital transformation, contributing Chinese expertise and collective wisdom to the region’s prosperity and sustainability.”
